Originally marketed as Royal Velvet Crapemyrtle this Carl Whitcomb
introduction features bright pink flower clusters. Pink VelourŪ
Crapemyrtle has burgundy to wine colored foliage which remains this
color for several weeks then fades to a dark purple green color that
changes to yellow- orange in the fall months. Pink Velour grows in a
vase shape, usually multi-trunked, and reaches a height and width of
ten feet. Lagerstroemia indica 'Whit III' is drought tolerant as well
as resistant to powdery mildew.

Robinia pseudoacacia
The
Purple Robe Locust is a fast growing tree with an open growth habit.
The shoots are shoots and the bark is deeply furrowed and brown in
color. Robinia has green compound leaves, similar to most Legumes. In
the spring it blooms fragrant bright pink flowers that will bear smooth
brown seed pods in autumn, these will remain through the winter months.
Robinia is soil adpatable due to the nitrogen fixing bacteria it has.
Peak height is 75 feet. Used commonly in Europe as wood for fence posts
due to the woods resistance to rot.

Ligustrum is an evergreen shrub with an upright, dense, and vigorous
growth habit. This shrub makes a nice sheared hedge but can also be
used as a small tree if trimmed up. The leaves are dark green, leathery
and a obovate, oblong shape. From spring to early summer it produces
panicles of fragrant white flowers in panicles which are followed by
round black fruit in the fall. Ligustrum is heat, drought, salt, and
pollution tolerant, making it an excellent choice for a variety of
different landscape situations. Ligustrum japonicum 'Texanum' is very
similar to the species only it has a more compact and dense growth
habit and grows 6-9' in height. This product is trimmed as a Pyramid
topiary.

A Carl Whitcomb introduction Red Rocket® Crapemyrtle has huge, up to 20 inches long, cherry red flower clusters. Flowering begins in July and will continue until frost. New growth is a red to red-purple color and new wood is red in color, the leaves will fade to dark green later in the season. Lagerstroemia indica 'Whit IV' has an upright growth habit and can get up to 20 feet tall at maturity. This cultivar is highly resistant to powdery mildew and has some drought tolerance.
