Salvia farinacea
'Evolution'
Evolution Blue Sage
Salvia farinacea ‘Evolution’ has the same growth habit as ‘Victoria’ but what sets it apart is that ‘Evolution’ is the first violet flowering Salvia. Where ‘Victoria’ flowers blue; ‘Evolution’ has very dark purple flower spikes that hold their color during the heat of summer. These 6-7” spikes are excellent for cut flowers and dried arrangements. This half hardy annual will survive temperatures to 28 degrees Fahrenheit and sometimes reseeds. When planted in a fertile soil, with moderate moisture, it will bloom from June to October and is self cleaning so no need to deadhead. Evolution Blue Sage has little disease and pest problems.
