Antique Roses

Carefree Beauty (Katy Road Pink)

ImageShrub/Buck

1977 This Griffith Buck rose was introduced in 1977. It was through a plant exchange with Conard Pyle Nurseries in 2001 that the 'Antique Rose Emporium' discovered that their favorite found rose "Katy Road Pink" was in fact 'Carefree Beauty.' Forming an open, but extremely graceful bush, 'Carefree Beauty' appears to have few insect or disease problems and is not particular about soil or growing conditions. It is free blooming, probably one of the most floriferous pink roses that we grow, with new buds appearing all the time. Large hips are a nice treat!

Carnation

Image Bermuda Rose

Named for its frilly edged petals, ‘Carnation’ has semi-double flowers tinged lilac pink fading to rose. The three inch wide blooms have a light reverse and are very showy. You can expect a continuous bloom on this five-foot tall shrub with healthy foliage.

Clotilde Soupert

ImagePolyantha

1890 ‘Clotilde Soupert’ reminds us of the Bourbon rose, ‘Souvenir de la Malmaison,’ only smaller. The flower is a rounded, cabbagey rose of creamy white with the very palest touches of pink in the center of its 100 petals which enfold its fine perfume. The compact growth habit and exquisite bloom make up for the tendency to ball in humid weather.

Crepuscule

ImageNoisette

1904 This rather late Noisette has large, loosely double flowers that open nearly orange, fading to a rich apricot-yellow. The dark canes have light green leaves and few thorns, and are best trained as a climber. It never fails to attract attention every time it flushes into bloom.

Hermosa

ImageChina

Prior to 1837 This lavender-pink, fragrant rose is double, cupped, and beautifully shaped; many rosarians suspect Bourbon influence in its breeding. It was long popular as a container plant for European window gardens and its low, compact form is well suited for any small garden or for a massed effect in a larger border.
